All right, sit tight and gear up for something truly remarkable – a fantastic movement gaining momentum in the tech world, benefitting black founders in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).

Here’s the scoop – the Fifteen Percent Pledge, brainchild of Aurora James, is making some pretty impressive strides. Who are they? They’re a dynamite nonprofit advocacy group who aren’t just talking the talk, but are walking the walk by challenging retailers to devote fifteen percent of their shelf space to Black-owned brands. The result: 29 boon believers have jumped aboard this terrific initiative, bestowing benefits on about 800 Black-owned brands. Now that is some welcome change!

But hold on, it gets even better. Guess who’s standing behind this initiative, really throwing their weight into the ring? None other than comedy legend turned entrepreneur, Kevin Hart, through Hartbeat Ventures, and the renowned venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (A16z). Their plan – expanding the Fifteen Percent Pledge’s outreach to bolster Black entrepreneurship.

It’s big, it’s bold, it’s the AI Illumination Grant and it’s got a substantial $35,000 grant pool up for grabs. Who can nab these funds? Members of the Fifteen Percent Pledge’s Business Equity Community with nothing but clear skies ahead to up their AI game. The grand prize is set at $20,000, and the second-best concept wins a cool $15,000.

Now, here’s the golden aim of this venture—they’re passionate about ensuring that Black founders participating in the Fifteen Percent Pledge program don’t get left in the dust in the AI arena.
