FCC Investigates Disney and ABC Over DEI Discrimination Conerns

FCC Announces Investigation Into Disney And ABC Due To Concerns That They Might Be 'Promoting Invidious Forms Of DEI Discrimination'

You won’t believe what just hit Hollywood’s glitziest, our dear old Walt Disney Company and its subsidiary ABC. Head’s up—our tech watchdog, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), just added them to their investigation list. Their reason? A potential violation in the area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The FCC chair, Brendan Carr, dropped the bombshell recently expressing his reservations about whether Disney and ABC have been partaking in questionable DEI practices. Not exactly the magic we expect from the Magic Kingdom, right?

Brendan explained that Disney’s decision-making processes and policies might have been “infected” by damaging forms of DEI discrimination. This isn’t just a hunch. There are several reports suggesting that Disney dove headfirst into these questionable practices some years ago.

And what’s more, it seems Disney has been found wanting in its diversity initiatives. It discontinued certain programs and even tweaked some of its language describing DEI.

I can’t stress enough how vital DEI is. We can’t afford to ignore it. It’s not just about being politically correct. It’s about creating spaces where everyone, no matter their color, race, or gender, can comfortably thrive. The media should be a vehicle for this change, reflecting society’s diversity in its totality and not adding to the problem.

That’s why this probe is no small matter. A company as influential as Disney must set the right example. The media we consume paints our world’s mirror. If our media, if Disney, fails to uphold DEI standards, what picture of our society are we painting? With FCC on the case, here’s to hoping for a better showcase of diversity in the happiest place on earth!
