Disney Shareholders Defend LGBTQ+ Inclusion Index in Harmony with Board

Disney Shareholders Align With Board And Vote To Keep HRC’s LGBTQ+ Inclusion Index

Guess what? A push for Disney to back out from a corporate equality index went down in flames recently. But let me backtrack a little and just tell you why this index matters, alright? So, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), in essence, works to make sure that workplaces are safe, inclusive spaces for every employee, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. They achieve this by measuring different company policies and benefits, because, let’s face it, being inclusive is more than just words, it’s actions too.

Disney being a part of it speaks volumes about their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion. For over two decades now, the CEI has been acting as a guiding light for businesses to cultivate work environments where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.

And guess what? It’s not about making a political statement, it’s about fostering more competitive businesses by ensuring every single talent finds their place. I’m talking about a level playing field. Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, really knocks it out of the park: “The path forward requires courage, commitment, and clarity of purpose.” They’re not just laying the groundwork for better workplaces; they’re envisioning a more resilient, competitive, and inclusive future. And Disney, sticking to the index through it all, clearly shows they’re ready to embrace that future.

So, take a minute to appreciate these strides in inclusion, and think about the incredible impact such frameworks have on underrepresented communities. It inspires us all to raise the bar a little higher, doesn’t it?
