Building Blavity: CEO Morgan DeBaun Challenges Silicon Valley Norms

How Blavity Inc. CEO Morgan DeBaun Went Against Silicon Valley's Metric Of Success While Building Her Company

In a world where traditional metrics of success are frequently challenged, one unique entrepreneur stands out—Morgan DeBaun. Turns out, Morgan’s been a financial wiz since the tender age of 13; that’s when she dipped her toes into the stock market. Her passion for business led her to earn a degree in political science and entrepreneurship from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her biggest breakthrough came in 2014 with the launch of Blavity Inc. With Morgan at the helm, this global company is committed to offering media and product solutions for the Black Millennials and Gen Z demographics, as well as entities seeking to engage with this dynamic audience.

At just 25, Morgan became not just a founder and CEO, but a trailblazer among Black women founders by securing $1 million in funding. This, as we know, isn’t an easy feat in an industry where representation has its fair share of gaps. But Morgan and Blavity Inc. didn’t stop there; they kept the ball rolling and raised more capital, successfully orchestrating three acquisitions and integrations. It’s noteworthy to mention two of these remarkable accomplishments were achieved within a span of just 18 months—before Morgan even hit the age of 24!

The most recent addition to their expanding portfolio came in November 2023 with the RNB House Party, now known as the fun and lively Blavity House Party. Today, Blavity Inc.’s family includes noteworthy brands like AFROTECH™, 21Ninety, Travel Noire, and more.

Morgan’s journey is a testament to the power of going against the norm, breaking barriers, and creating a dedicated space for underrepresented communities. Her story is a reminder that the entrepreneurial path may not be traditional, but it can lead to new horizons that redefine success. Stay inspired, everyone!
